Honor Thy Father Chapter 13 of Successful Marriages and Families Sean   E. Brotherson "By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families." The Family: A Proclamation to the World Just as a mother has a sacred role, a father also has a special calling. In the quote above it outlines their role as father beautifully. My husband and I are going to be completely new to this parenting thing, but I truly believe that we have special gifts as a woman or man that come from God. I recently received some wise advice from a religion professor at BYU-I that even though we may be bombarded by advice as soon to be parents, the most important thing to do is to trust in your own instincts. She taught us that our spirits were trained by heavenly parents-the best example there could ever be.  As my husband prepares to take on the r...
Faith in Family Life Chapter 18 of Successful Marriages and Families Loren D. Marks, David C. Dollahite, and Joanna Jacob Freeman The textbook explains that it is difficult to prove that faith creates a successful marriage. It states,  " It is reasonable to conclude, for example, that persons in a healthy marriage are more likely to want to attend church together than a couple who are facing divorce. Mothers as Nurtures Chapter 12 of Successful Marriages and Families Jenet J. Erickson In the book Successful Marriages and Families , I read a story about a woman who got a call from her husband during lunch time. The call was cut short when her toddler knocked apple juice all over her, the floor and everything else. She was left to contemplate how this work she was doing as a mother, wiping apple juice off the floor with a rag, compared to her husbands work. Is it really that important to wipe noses, change diapers, clean up messes, and other motherly chores? To me, the answer is an absolute YES! I believe that the call to be a mother is the most important role that a woman can have on this earth. The world seems to demean motherhood, but I believe it is a beautiful gift strait from God. I am so excited to become a mother shortly. I can't wait to welcome a baby girl into our family.  In the Family Proclamation a line about motherhood states; " M...
